Gettysburg National Military Park
With 30 miles of roads and 6000 acres, you will find plenty of space to hike and explore with your children. Devil's Den is a favorite, but please watch your children on the rocks.
If you are bringing young children, here are some approaches that can capture the imaginations of young visitors.
Make up stories about the exhibits. Young children may not grasp the big picture, but they can enjoy making up stories of their own about what is going on. You might even enjoy writing a family storybook about Gettysburg.
Have a treasure hunt. Look through the museum for Civil War symbols like a musket, a Confederate Flag, a cavalry saddle, a drum, a sword, and a cannon.
If your children are studying American History, they will love seeing the artifacts first-hand. The museum has hours worth of displays and exhibits. Don't miss the movie and the Cyclorama Painting, all included in the entrance fee.
Living History Encampments
Each year, the American Civil War Museum, General Lee's Headquarters and the Gettysburg National Military Park host Living History Encampments. The National Park has living history programs available at several sites throughout the tourist season.
