Bringing Your Family to Gettysburg Battlefield Bed and Breakfast Inn Battlefield Bed & Breakfast Inn welcomes family travelers. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, relaxing, educational experience for all our guests. Information for families 1. Many inns request "well behaved children." At our inn, we request "considerate parents." We have plenty of space for your children to run around and enjoy themselves. Our three common rooms allow several groups of guests to relax without getting in each other's way. Parents, please keep in mind that other guests are paying for a relaxing get-away. With a little common sense, you will be able to tell whether your children are bothering other guests. Just redirect your children to an activity in another part of the inn or suggest that they play outside if they are in an exuberant mood. If your children want to spread out playing a game on the floor, find a spot for them that is not in a pathway. Then other guests won't have to step over or around them. Please use your own common sense to determine what is appropriate. We would rather that you stay in charge of your children instead of relying on the inn staff to step in. However, we will speak up if we notice a problem. 2. Most children are fascinated with our activities. Although the history program and ghost stories are intended to interest and stimulate adults, our presenters always keep in mind our whole audience and try to include the children in the activities. Some children are frightened by the loud sounds of the muskets and cannon. Sometimes they enjoy watching through the window. Most of the ghost stories are appropriate for all ages, but use your discretion when story time comes. Although we try not to focus on the gory side of the battle, sometimes it is mentioned as a context for the story. If your children can't keep quiet during the presentation, please take them to another room until they settle down. We ask this both for the sake of our other guests and for the benefit of the presenters, who find it hard to stay on track when the audience is interrupting. 3. We try to make sure that both children and adults enjoy breakfast. We have cereal available for fussy eaters. Please let us know the night before if anyone in your family has special breakfast needs. We usually serve the same breakfast to all our guests. We can accommodate special orders with advance notice. If we need to prepare something special at the last minute, we will have to wait until the rest of the guests have received their main course before we can cook it. We want to please, but don't want to make the majority of the guests wait for their meal. We usually seat families with small children at a table of their own. When we have a very mixed crowd with both families and get-away couples, we can set up breakfast in two different rooms to meet everyone's needs. We know that some couples are vacationing to get a break from their children and don't want to eat with someone else's child. They may love children - just not on this vacation. With a little planning, we make it all work out so everyone has a good time. 4. Please supervise your children outdoors. We are a 30 acre farm and have some hazards inherent in farm property.

It is time to start booking for our fall and winter special events! 6. January 25 & 26, 2008 Innkeepers' Civil War Grand Ball & Dinner Teens have especially enjoyed participating in this ball. 7. February 22 & 23, 2008 Lincoln at Gettysburg Package We recommend this package for families with older children. There is a guided hike and a dinner with President Abraham Lincoln. You will really feel like you met The President. 8. March 7 & 8, 2008 Paddy O'Rorke and the Irish at Gettysburg Package This is the first time we have offered this particular package so we don't have experience with children attending. There is lots of Irish food, Irish music, and a battlefield hiking tour. We believe older children would probably enjoy the weekend. Please call if you have questions about the appropriateness of any of these packages for your family. |
