Emmitsburg Road-Bus. 15--Steinwehr Ave is the red line. The distance from the inn to the traffic circle at Lincoln Square in the center of the historic town is 5 miles . The dark green area is the Gettysburg National Military Park. We are on the South Cavalry Battlefield. Gettysburg National Military Park is 10 miles across, has more than 30 miles of roads, and over 1400 monuments. The park is too big to see on foot. You may want to tour by car, bus, or bicycle. Plan on two days at least to see the entire Battlefield, Civil War Museum , Cyclorama, & historic town. The South Cavalry Battlefield Monuments line our driveway. We are on the historic Emmitsburg Road that goes through the center of Pickett's Charge. We are 3 1/2 miles south of the National Park Visitor Center & town tourist district. We are 1 mile from Confederate Ave and Big & Little Round Top. We are 2 miles south of the Peach Orchard. Public Transportation and Parking Gettysburg has a local cab company, but you are going to have to rely on your own automobile to get here. There are trolleys that serve tourists at the height of the summer season. Bus tours of the park operate all year around. There is train service to Harrisburg from New York City. You will then need a car to get from Harrisburg to Gettysburg. The nearest airports are Harrisburg, Baltimore (BWI), Dulles, & Reagan. All are about equally convenient, although sometimes Baltimore has the most reasonable fares. Parking The inn has unlimited parking for any kind of vehicle. The National Military Park has parking lots near the Visitor Center. There is an overflow lot on Taneytown Road for very busy days. The downtown historic area has metered street parking and an inexpensive parking garage on Race Horse Alley. Bring quarters and dimes for the meters if you want to park on the street. The parking garage charges about 50 cents an hour. You can't beat that! |
